Laser Hair Removal: Pre & Post Care Advice
Following the right care before and after your treatment is key to achieving silky-smooth results while keeping your skin healthy.
Before Your Appointment
To ensure the best results and keep your skin comfortable:
-
Shave the treatment area 2–12 hours before your session. Shaving immediately before may cause extra sensitivity.
-
Avoid bleaching, plucking, waxing, epilating or using depilatory creams for 4 weeks prior (and throughout your treatment course). Shaving only, please!
-
Stay out of direct sunlight on the treatment area for at least 3 days beforehand, sunburned or sensitive skin cannot be treated.
-
No tanning creams for at least 2 weeks before your appointment.
-
Skip essential oils for 48 hours prior.
-
If you’ve recently been on antibiotics, wait 2 weeks after finishing your course.
-
If you’re prone to cold sores, you may take your usual preventative medication starting 5 days before treatment.
After Your Treatment
Your skin may be slightly red or swollen, this is normal and usually settles quickly. To soothe and protect your skin:
-
Apply aloe vera gel or a cool pack if needed.
-
Avoid shaving, deodorant, perfumes, or fragranced lotions on the treated area for 24–48 hours.
-
Skip hot baths, saunas, hot tubs, massage treatments and strenuous exercise for 2–3 days.
-
Protect the area with SPF 30+ and avoid direct sun or sunbeds for at least 4 days.
-
Don’t scratch if itching occurs, you can take an antihistamine like Piriton if needed.
-
Avoid products with AHA, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, or retinoids for 3–5 days.
-
Keep skin hydrated and moisturised daily to maintain softness.
